There’s a new Lara Croft in town. Former sales assistant Karima has been name the new face of Lara Croft. Karima says the following after landing the Lara Croft role:

I’m more than a match for her and I’d love to take Angelina on one on one to see who’s the toughest.

Karima went on about the reaction from her boyfriend Terry:

Terry is happy I got the job and very proud of me. But I don’t think he is going to enjoy all the attention, which is understandable.

He hasn’t seen me pictured as Lara. I’ve not taken the costume home either, but maybe I will.

I think he would be scared of it, though! There’s a lot of latex and I’ve got guns and grenades. I’m already the dominant one in the relationship, so just imagine if I showed up as Lara Croft — I reckon he would cry!

Karima will now become the fantasy for millions of young pubescent boys and some grown men.

If you love video game why not go to school and get a degree in it. Apparently there are a few colleges where you can do just that, go to school and play video games. Carnegie Mellon University and the Georgia Institute of Technology both offer master’s degrees in game development.

The Entertainment Software Association, an industry trade group, puts the number of colleges and schools offering some sort of gaming-related coursework at over 50.

All I can say is these school are just inventing degrees to get the students to enroll in their school and <s>steal their money</s> make off with the students tuition money for a degree that people in the industry don’t even know about. I guess this major can be good considering there’s already Film Major and the video game industry is making more money then the Film industry. Forget what I say earlier, go out and get your video game degree and make the next Grand Theft Auto.

The idea of a video game education is so new that, even within the gaming industry, the jury is still out on whether these degrees are worth the sheepskin they’re printed on.

The next generation DVD format created by Toshiba gets the support of Microsoft and Intel. I would have predicted this was going to happen with Microsoft’s new video game system Xbox 360 is about to do battle with Sony’s PlayStation 3 in a couple of months. This announcement is great news for Toshiba’s HD-DVD format, who is losing momentum to Sony’s Blu-Ray. With the addition of the powerful Wintel muscle HD-DVD might stand a chance against Sony’s format.

Coming soon to a DVD near you, the battle of Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD. With fierce competition only good things will come out for the consumers. Got to love competition when you are the consumer.

Over 9,000 X-Box 360 will be given out during this promotion, over nine week straight. The free game you can get when you win the Xbox is either Need for Speed™ Most Wanted or Madden™ NFL 2006. To win all you have to do is collect the codes from the caps of Mountain Dew drinks a go on over to www.everytenminutes.com to win your very own Xbox 360 .

The consoles will be shipped overnight on the Saturday before the Xbox 360 launches. Winners of the promotion would also be able to select one of two games: “Madden NFL 06″ or “Need for Speed Most Wanted.” The contest will end on November 15, 2005, indicating the Xbox 360 will launch toward the end of the month.

Looks like I am going to have a new favorite drink this nine-weeks. If I win this Xbox 360, I think I will give it away to some lucky reader here.

The Chinese government will be implementing a time limit on the amount of time someone can play certain online games continuously. Give it to the Chinese for doing this, the side effect of this limit is that they won’t have a growing amount of obese children that’s sitting around their computers playing game. I can see it now, Chinese children will play for 3 hours and log out and log back in after a few minutes.

Accordingly, from October, anyone who goes over a three-hour limit will see his character’s abilities reduced. Hitting five hours will result in severe character limitation. Players will then have to take a five-hour break before getting back down to it.

A Korean man dies from playing a computer game for 50 hours.

The man, identified by his family name, Lee, started playing Starcraft on 3 August. He only paused playing to go to the toilet and for short periods of sleep, said the police.

More than 15 million people, or 30% of the population, are registered for online gaming in South Korea. The country also host the annual World Cyber Games.

When you are spending this much time playing computer games you know you have a problem. You know you have a really big problems when you quit you job to play computer games. I have no idea how people can play this long. After playing for a few hours I am already tired and my eyes are already sore from looking at all those moving graphics. I guess they are all trying to get a job playing computer game that pays upwards of $100,000.
